About Me

Hi, I’m Martha, but as a joke on Instagram I go by Mom. So just call me Mom. Thanks for checking out Mom Grows Up. I went from an overweight child to an overweight adult. The last thing I wanted to do was pass down my bad habits to my kids. With my kids in mind, I was able to achieve lasting weight loss and a better relationship with food.

My weight loss journey started when I was 16.
Then after I had kids I began the losing gaining cycle after each pregnancy.

The leg of the weight loss journey I am on now started in 2016 at the 6 week postpartum check-up with my son where I weighed in at 213 pounds. Today I am 148 pounds — a total of 65 pounds lost — and I’m working to be in the best shape of my life.

Through this multi-decade weight loss journey I have learned quite a lot about losing weight. My favorite joke is that I have a PhD in dieting. What you can gain from me has all been acquired through experience. I have no certification in nutrition, just a lot of experience in figuring out what does and doesn’t work long term from the perspective of someone who understands the struggle of weight loss.

I have loads of empathy, as I know EXACTLY what it feels like to struggle to lose weight and control my eating habits. There was a point I thought I’d never succeed, and I often toyed with the idea of quitting and just accepting my destiny to be overweight. I broke through, embraced the struggle, and succeeded because I never quit. You can too.

Stop looking at everyone else, and start focusing on yourself. It doesn’t matter what worked for them, it’s time to figure out what will work for you. I’m here to help.
