I have been on a Weight Loss Journey for what feels like my entire life. You can check out this post, or this one, or this one… hahaha… and you will see I am a lifelong struggling dieter. I have tried a lot of diets. Over the years, I have learned a lot about nutrition and getting healthy. A few months ago I wrote a post comparing WW to MFP, and at the time it was a toss up between which one I thought was the best.

Then after months of doing MFP and feeling really discouraged about weight loss, I joined WW again. It hasn’t been an easy 7 weeks of being on WW. I haven’t magically lost all of my weight by joining, you can read about that here. But through the first 6 weeks of WW failure, combined with last week of being recommitted and succeeding, I have concluded one thing: WW is not a diet, and it is the best weight loss program out there.

Here’s why Weight Watchers is the Best Online Program

1. It works.

I have been on a weight loss journey a long time, and the only program I have ever lost weight (and kept it off) is Weight Watchers. In fact U.S. News just revealed it was one of the best diets for not just weight loss, but fast weight loss. I like the sounds of that!

When I was 26, I was at my highest weight after my first baby. A friend said that Weight Watchers had a program for nursing mothers so I tried it. It worked like a charm, and in less than a year and a half I was back at my lifetime lowest weight. I was hooked.

Since then I have used Weight Watchers after every baby and have lost at least 80 pounds total using the program (the 80 lbs is because I’d regain with each pregnancy and lose again). There is no other program I would recommend to nursing mothers to lose weight. Nursing mamas, if you want to lose weight look no further, start today, follow the program, and you will lose weight.

Now, what about the rest of us? Will weight watchers work for men or non-nursing women? Yes, it will! My friend lost 80 pounds in one year following the program. I lost ten last year and have kept it off. My dad has lost 30 on the program, and he is in his 60’s. If you follow the program, you will lose weight.

2. Variety

For those of us who get bored with lack of variety, the program is constantly changing. But no matter the format of the program, you will lose weight.

Right now the company is called WW. They don’t even call themselves Weight Watchers anymore. When I first started ALL foods were assigned a point value. Then they changed it to all fruits and vegetables were zero points.

Now they have completely lost their minds, and almost all healthy food is free. Chicken breasts, turkey breasts, lots of deli meat, most seafood, beans, lentils, and almost all fruits and vegetables (except potatoes and avocados) are zero points. And the program still works. No matter what crazy changes they make, it keeps on working. (update: click here to learn about myWW, the new WW program that can be customized for you with more freedoms than ever before!)

3. Eat how you want

One of the reasons it works is that you can eat however you want. You can be paleo, vegetarian, Mediterranean diet, keto, intermittent fasting, or any other eating style and use the program. I just heard about a lady who couldn’t lose weight until she did WW as a vegan.

There is no food off limits and no eating guide to follow. This freedom is the kind of program that I thrive under. I can’t be told what to eat, or else I find myself struggling and craving foods like I’ve never craved before. You know what I’m talking about.

4. Tracking is easy

In WW, food has points instead of calories that you can easily track using their app. Generally, the healthier the food, the lower the points and vice versa.  For example, foods higher in saturated fat, calories, and sugar will be assigned a higher point value. You can eat any foods as long as it fits into your daily allotted points.

Not counting calories is another reason I love the program. I rarely have to track food because most of the foods I eat have zero points. This keeps me motivated to continue tracking.

The other reason I enjoy points over other tracking methods is because I have a negative association with calories and macros. It’s weird because if I have 400 calories left in the day to eat, I start to stress that I will be starving. On the other hand, if I have 4 points left, I get creative on how I can really stretch that and combine it with fruits and vegetables to keep me full.

The points system helps with the mental hurdles of weight loss for me.

When does it not work?

It won’t work for you if you don’t follow the program. It’s as simple as that. I know this from personal experience.

Honestly, it is really hard to lose weight for so many reasons that you know already. WW is no different. It isn’t a program that will help you magically reach your goal weight. If you aren’t going to actually adhere to the rules of the program, it won’t work.

The reason I am still not to my goal weight after years of trying and months of WW is because I often get lazy, tired, frustrated, or impatient. It’s hard to stay in the right frame of mind, which is why I recommend everyone begin their journey with this book.

Once you are ready to commit to losing weight and following a program, I 100% believe that WW is a great starting point.

Let me know if you choose WW or any questions you might have. I’d love to know who is on this weight loss journey with me!
