Weight Watchers vs Noom: Day 4

Yesterday I woke up with the resolve to eat better. My plan was to base my day off of WW, and then log it with Noom. Well, I started out down the right path. Breakfast was an easy choice: two eggs and toast. At lunch, I realized I had the things I needed to make a 2 point pasta dish. I chose this over a turkey sandwich, even though the calories were the same, because the bread, cheese, and mayo would have used a ton of points with WW.

Then the afternoon came, and I got to working on this blog and the chores, and I spent some time outside with the kids. At 6 o’clock I still hadn’t eaten with no clear plans for dinner.

Sabotaged by a Holiday

As most of you know, holiday weeks mess with your schedule. This is a weird week. With Thankgiving on Thursday, most of my meals will be at other people’s houses, so I didn’t buy groceries. I decided to cook baked oats for dinner because it was easy and healthy.

Even though I was hungry, I didn’t lose self control with snacking.Until I couldn’t find the stupid protein powder. What I did find was a single wrapped Twizzler, and it was my trigger. I didn’t have the willpower to resist because I was hungry, tired, and frustrated that I couldn’t find the protein powder. Hungry. Tired. Frustrated. All triggers. That one Twizzler sent me spiraling into a bucket of Halloween candy and fruit snacks.

Luckily, I logged it all on Noom, and I realized that even though I had blown up my points for the day with WW, I still was under 2,000 calories!

Here’s what I ate:

My weight today was 160.2. For more detailed stats on my life, check out this previous post.

WW

Here is the honest truth. It has been one of those weeks. Now that I’m logging my points at the same time as calories, I see why I stall out with WW. I am living many of the cons I listed about WW in this article. Since I have not planned this week, the foods I am choosing are not low in points, therefore my points are off the rails.

In past, when this cycle would start, I would give up and say “next week.” My mental state would begin to decline as well because I would feel like I was failing and assume I was gaining weight. WW only seems to work for me with a solid food plan in place. I’m beginning to see why I take so long to lose with WW.

Noom

For a while I was wondering what makes Noom any better than Myfitnesspal. It kinda seemed like my personal coach didn’t offer much, and I would be paying for something that is free with Myfitnesspal. Then, my trainer popped up today and asked my why I chose so many red foods for the day. I had to stop and think of an answer. Until that point, I had not had any self-reflection as to why I made such poor choices. Hunger, exhaustion, and frustration were all reasons that led to my candy binge.

While Noom does give you calories back from exercise that you can eat for that day, they don’t give you all the calories from exercise. They divide it by two and let you eat half. That’s genius! Where I was feeling hesitant to consume them all, as I mentioned in this post, now I feel completely comfortable eating all of my “calories burned.”

Conclusion

I am at my all time lowest weight ever today: 160.2. This success is solely because of Noom, I absolutely would not have lost this week if I had been doing just WW. I made too many mistakes, and I would have given up. Noom seems to be working better for me this week than WW. If you’d like to check out a one week trial with Noom, click here.
