tools Needed to Have Success With logging food

Regardless of which route you take to get healthy, you will need a few tools to be successful. Here are the items I’d recommend to help you on your way.

1. Food scale

This is a life saver and the backbone of any program you choose. You will never regret getting a food scale. This is also a practical kitchen tool outside of a weight loss program.

2. A set (or three) of measuring cups and spoons.

You have to measure so many foods and condiments that the sets at home will be dirty quickly. If they aren’t clean, I usually go, “I’ll just eyeball it.” and we know how that ends up. It’s best to have a couple of sets on hand so you don’t have any additional obstacles on your weight loss journey.

3. Scale for logging food

You will weigh yourself once a week on WW. I weigh daily on MFP. This scale is awesome because it connects to your phone and apps, it keeps track of more than just weight, and graphs it. It’s perfect for people who love lots of information.

4. Soft measuring tape

While the scale is a good tool to know your success, I guarantee that you will plateau if you stay on your weight loss journey. It is important to take measurements in the beginning, then I’d measure once a month after that. Sometimes you will convert fat to muscle, and the scale won’t show that. To keep from being discouraged, take measurements.

5. Containers

Pro tip: These containers are the perfect size to measure out portions of soup or skillet dinners. These meals are generally more difficult to track portions, so I love these small containers that are perfect to measure out one healthy serving.

Conclusion

You will be less frustrated if you start your weight loss journey with tools to make it easier. These tools will get you on track, and you will be well on your way to your goal weight. The key is to be consistent. I know you can do this. Start today, with me, and maybe by Memorial Day we will be where we want to be. For real, today is my day one. Why not join me?
