Weight Watchers vs Noom: Day 2

We ended up at Hardee’s for breakfast. I wanted and ate biscuits and gravy. Surprisingly I only ate half of it before moving on to a small hash brown (I don’t usually eat hash browns….I was in a weird food mood today) and a chocolate chip cookie.

Oh, I knew WW was gonna have a fit with those choices. I’ve been at it long enough. I also knew the calories would be kind, leaving me plenty of calories for two decent meals. This is why WW and calories wage war with each other. WW punishes “junk” food and they penalize it hard. They give it extreme points, but they also give you weeklies to let you make unhealthy choices about 1-2 times a week. Whereas, with Noom, calories are just calories.

So why do I always end up back with WW? It’s because the reward for eating healthy is so good, that’s I eat way healthier on WW. When I follow the program and play their little game, I lose weight. Always. Every single time.

But here I am anyway, seeing if I like Noom better, knowing that WW will work. Why? Mainly because I only seem to lose weight with WW in spurts. I will lose 10 pounds, and then stall for a few months (I maintain the loss). Then, I lose 10 more pounds and the cycle repeats.

The stall in weight loss progress happens because I get burned out. I miss the fried food and the junk. Noom seems to be a good balance between the complete freedom of MyFitnessPal and the restrictions of WW.

Daily Stats

Weight this morning: 163.8 up 2 lbs from yesterday (not surprised because Friday I weighed after the run)

WW end of day statistics: 0 daily points left, 0 weeklies left.

Noom end of day statistics: all 1200 calories consumed, over 236 calories for the day.

Thoughts

Noom gives you the option of measuring your chips in “handfuls.” When I tested this method, I took two handfuls and then counted how many chips I took. The amount actually ended up being 70 calories than what Noom estimated. While I love how this simplifies measuring,it would be very easy to go overboard. You could find yourself actually eating twice as many calories as you logged. Proceed with caution when measuring in handfuls!

I like how Noom nudges you to make smarter food choices with their color system. It’s not pushy, it’s simply information. It’s so easy to see at a quick glance where most of your choices for the day are landing. Look at all the reds I had today, but see how little food I ate?

Call me a nerd, but I really look forward to that 10 minute learning session that Noom offers everyday. If you aren’t familiar with the basic structure of Noom’s program, click here to learn more. If you want to just try it out yourself, there is a 1 week trial you can do for as little as a dollar!

You access the learning session at any time of day, but I’ve been doing it before I even get out of bed. By doing these things first thing in the morning, I start my day focused on my goals. This helps succeed, and this might be one of the smartest features they offer. Genius move, Noom.

FYI

I will share what I ate today on tomorrows blog post. It’s a doozy, stay tuned.
