My Experience with the SWEAT App

My SWEAT app experience changed my entire life. Prior, way prior, to discovering it, I was unfit. I wasn’t fit as a kid, a teenager, or in my twenties even though I should have been. After all, I was supposedly in my “prime.” Don’t get me wrong, I always wanted to be in shape, but understanding how to get in shape was a different story. I never knew quite what to do, and honestly I never had the drive to figure it out. That is, until I had kids.

From the moment I held my first baby, I knew I wanted to do and be my best for them. I wanted them to understand health and fitness from a young age, so they would not have the same issues with weight and body image I had struggled with all my life. My fear was that I would pass my unhealthy habits to my kids, and that terrifying thought kept me awake at night.

But I didn’t know how to change, until I experienced the SWEAT app

That’s why I found myself impulsively purchasing Kayla Itsines’ BBG (Bikini Body Guide) fitness program at 2 o’clock in the morning. That l one fateful night, I decided I could not give up on my kids or myself. I had to keep trying. I stumbled across BBG and almost didn’t buy it. The program cost $120 for a year subscription, and we were barely making ends meet with 3 little kids.

But I got off the fence and out of bed to get my wallet. I decided I was worth the investment: I was worth taking this chance on, despite how tight our finances were…I was worth it. That realization and my impulsive purchase changed everything.

BBG is where It all started

The change wasn’t quick or easy, by any means. I didn’t magically get into shape and things didn’t just fall into place. The first BBG workout I did was a leg session. I walked down the stairs to my workout space in the basement with high hopes and expectations, and came crawling back up afterward feeling completely defeated. I had NO idea how out of shape I really was until I experienced that first workout SWEAT app. It was truly an awakening, and I was shocked at how poorly I had been taking care of my physical health.

In the past, one hard workout would have been my breaking point, but not this time. I knew quitting would mean I had squandered what little money we had, and I’d feel ashamed for giving up on myself…again.

There was no quitting option

I decided if I couldn’t stick with THIS program and its 30-minute workouts, three times per week, that was it. It would be over for me. If I gave up on myself now, I was choosing to give up my dream of leading by example and modeling healthy habits to my children. I didn’t have the money to keep bouncing from one method to another, and regardless, there wasn’t another program out there that required such a modest amount of time – a commodity so hard to come by as mother!

Shockingly, when it came time to do the next workout, I showed back up. Not only did I do it, but I put my whole heart into it. The reality check of the first workout awoke the fighter in me. And I would find a way to succeed no matter what, for my kids.

My kids were the driving force behind every single workout in the beginning. I wanted them to know what I was made of and understand what was expected of them when things got hard.

Because working out, changing habits, and believing in yourself is HARD.

When I started, I assumed I would have the before-and-after photo that I was seeking once I completed just 12-weeks of the BBG program. This notion was laughable, and was my next, mind-blowing reality check. It would take serious amounts of time and effort to see significant change.

Over the next NINE months I completed the BBG “Beginner” weeks several times and the main BBG program twice. During the last few months of training with BBG, I started a running routine and felt like BBG was more cardio based than I needed on top of my running schedule. At this point I knew in order for me to keep going, it was time for a change.

Luckily the SWEAT APP has multiple trainers and programS: Enter PWR

Having subscribed to the SWEAT App, I had the option of choosing a different trainer and program. I decided to join a gym to see what Kelsey Wells’ weight lifting based PWR program was all about. It was exactly what I needed at the time.

I wanted to build muscle, so I dove head first into PWR. I continued for over a year with PWR, and was shocked at the definition I was beginning to see on my back! Despite getting fit and healthy, much of my muscle tone was still hidden beneath some flab. I’d finally mastered consistency when it came to exercise, and it was time to drop some more weight in order to see the fruits of my labor.

Now that the workout was routine, it was time to get the nutrtion together

Nutrition has always been the most challenging aspect of weight loss for me. I was a chronic overeater in a family that adored food. I honestly didn’t know where to start when it came to overcoming those lifelong habits.

Then one morning I woke up to a text from my husband. He had witnessed first-hand the hard work and effort I was putting into my fitness journey, only to be almost the exact same weight after over a year. Being empathetic and helpful, he sent me a link to an article about why losing weight was so hard. It mentioned a book by Eliza Kingsford called, “Brain-Powered Weight-Loss.” I was so intrigued by its title alone that I bought it.

I read the first chapter and felt relief wash over me. I felt understood and seen, and I knew this book could help me. As I read and learned about the science and psychology of weight loss, I began to understand why I struggled to lose weight despite consistently crushing my workouts. I slowly began applying the book’s concepts to my diet alongside my usual workouts.

Things started changing

Over the next few months, I trained for multiple races, and continued my PWR workouts. I also chipped away at my unhealthy relationship with food. Before I knew it, I had been consistently working out for over TWO years straight! With nutrition changes and the app I had dropped a whopping 35 pounds!

I had slowly, through much failure and learning, become the person I always wanted to be for my kids. Now when I look in the mirror, I cannot believe what I see. My transformation wasn’t fast, but it was massive. It doesn’t matter how long it took me to get here – what matters is I’m here now

I can’t believe I’m here

I’m beyond proud of my physical progress, but the biggest changes, by far, are the ones you can’t see. What I learned is fitness is invaluable, and now that I have it, my children will, too. My experience with the SWEAT app changed the trajectory of my life and children’s lives.

Even though I hit my initial goal, my journey continues and evolves. Now the goal is to get ripped. Two years ago, I would have laughed at that idea, but now that I’ve tasted success, anything feels possible. I’m excited for what the future holds, and where this journey will take me!
